How big are the units in ROME: Total War, and can I increase their size?

ROME: Total War has a cosmetic Unit Size setting that dictates how many soldiers-per-unit appear on-screen in battles. The default unit sizes for each device are listed below:

Default Unit Size
20 40 80 160
iPod Touch (6th Generation) iPad Air 2 iPhone 6S/6S Plus iPhone X
iPhone 5S iPad Mini 4 iPhone SE iPad Pro 10.5"
iPhone 6/6 Plus iPhone 7/7 Plus iPad Pro 12.9" (2nd Generation)
iPad Air iPhone 8/8 Plus
iPad Mini 2 iPad Pro 9.7"
iPad Mini 3 iPad Pro 12.9" (1st Generation)
iPad 2017
iPad 2018

In the app settings for ROME: Total War, you can change the Unit Size from Recommended to Larger, which will double the Unit Size for your device. Note: It is not possible to increase the Unit Size on the iPhone X, iPad Pro 10.5" and iPad Pro 12.9", as these devices are set to Larger by default. You can, however, change to Recommended on these devices for improved performance.

To change the Unit Size setting, follow the steps below. Please note: changing from Recommended to Larger will impact the game's performance. It is a purely cosmetic setting, and does not grant you any more units in battle. For the best experience, we recommend that you do not change this setting.

  1. From your Home screen, open the Settings app.
  2. Navigate to ROME: Total War.
  3. Under Advanced, select Unit Size.
  4. Select Larger - Reduces Performance in 3D Battles.
  5. Close the Settings app and relaunch ROME: Total War.

Note: It is not possible to increase the Unit Size on the iPhone X, iPad Pro 10.5" and iPad Pro 12.9", as these devices are set to Larger by default. You can, however, change to Recommended on these devices for improved performance.
