Important Health Warning About Playing Video Games

Photosensitive Seizures

A very small percentage of people may experience a seizure when exposed to certain visual images, including flashing lights or patterns that may appear in video games. Even people who have no history of seizures or epilepsy may have an undiagnosed condition that can cause these “photosensitive epileptic seizures” while watching video games.

These seizures may have a variety of symptoms, including lightheadedness, altered vision, eye or face twitching, jerking or shaking of arms or legs, disorientation, confusion, or momentary loss of awareness. Seizures may also cause loss of consciousness or convulsions that can lead to injury from falling down or striking nearby objects.

Immediately stop playing and consult a doctor if you experience any of these symptoms. Parents should watch for or ask their children about the above symptoms—children and teenagers are more likely than adults to experience these seizures. The risk of photosensitive epileptic seizures may be reduced by taking the following precautions: Sit farther from the screen; use a smaller screen; play in a well-lit room; and do not play when you are drowsy or fatigued. If you or any of your relatives have a history of seizures or epilepsy, consult a doctor before playing.

Precautions to take during use

  • Sit a good distance away from the monitor.
  • Avoid playing if you are tired or have not had much sleep.
  • Make sure that the room in which you are playing is well lit.
  • Rest for at least 10 to 15 minutes per hour while playing a video game.

Levels

The first time you play a level, you do so in story mode, and will only have access to a limited cast of characters. Some areas and collectibles will be out of reach in story mode: return to the level in Free Play mode and use different characters to explore new areas.

To replay a level, press the M key to access the Map. Select the Levels tab by pressing the Control key, then use the Left cursor key/the Right cursor key to locate the level you want to replay. Press the J key to select it.

Free Play

Once you have completed a level in story mode, you can replay it in Free Play mode using any of the characters you have unlocked so far.

You can use different characters to access areas that were previously inaccessible and find collectibles you missed the first time round.

6

City Crime Waves

The Parrs' home city of Municiberg, as well as the neighbouring metropolis of New Urbem, will be terrorised by super villains in a series of Crime Waves. Each Crime Wave is an optional side mission separate from the main story. Attempting to stop a Crime Wave will also give you the opportunity to harvest more Collectibles.

Challenges

When exploring the cities of Municiberg and New Urbem, either in Free Play or during a Crime Wave, you can choose to complete various Challenges such as races and rescue missions. Successfully completing a Challenge will earn you a reward, from more Collectibles to unlocking extra characters.

7

Characters

You'll unlock new characters as you play through the game.

Different characters have different abilities. If you find that you can't perform an action or access an area with one character, try switching to another.

Some characters can only be unlocked by completing Family Builds or Challenges, while others can only be found in Mystery Bags.

Changing Characters

To change characters, press the U key to switch to the nearest playable character.

In Free Play and Crime Wave modes, press and hold the U key down to bring up the character grid, which lets you switch to any of your unlocked characters.

Create A Hero

You can create your own superhero, complete with a customised costume and superpowers, and then play the Free Play and Crime Wave modes as your new hero. To get started, visit Edna Mode at her home in Outer Municiberg in Free Play mode and then follow the on-screen prompts.

8

Aiming

Some characters have weapons or abilities that you need to aim before using, such as Frozone’s ice blasts.

To aim and fire, hold down the H key to bring up the target reticle. When the reticle appears, use the W/A/S/D keys to position it over your target, then release the H key to throw or fire your weapon.

Flying

When playing as a character that can fly, press the the J key key so the character jumps, then press the the J key key again to make the character hover in the air.

Once the character is in mid-air, use the W / A / S / D keys to move and the the J key / the K key keys to climb and descend.

9

Super Attacks

Super Attacks are powerful attacks that you can perform during combat.

String together multiple attacks without taking damage or missing a hit to execute a Super Attack. When prompted, press and hold the K key to show the Super Attack Meter. Then tap the K key repeatedly to fill your Super Attack Meter and perform the move.

Team-Up Moves

You will often have to combine the abilities of two characters to achieve your objectives.

For example, Mr. Incredible can pick up and throw Frozone at far-away ledges who can then retrieve objects that would otherwise be out of each. On-screen prompts and hints in the characters' dialogue will guide you to when team-up moves can be used.

Vehicles

Scattered throughout the game, you'll find plenty of vehicles that you can drive.

To get into a vehicle, stand next to it and press the U key. To get out, press the U key again.

To accelerate, press the J key, and to brake or reverse, press the K key. To steer, use the A/D keys.

In Free Play mode, vehicles can be summoned from the vehicle grid by holding the U key.

10

Collectibles

LEGO Studs

LEGO studs are scattered throughout the game. Collect and spend them for other Collectibles, such as Mystery Bags and Vehicles. Collect enough in a level and you will achieve "True Super" status.

Minikits

There are 10 minikits to collect in each level. Some of the minikits can only be accessed during Free Play.

Gold Bricks

You will be awarded gold bricks as you progress through the game, but there are also many hidden ones.

Red Bricks

There are 12 red bricks in LEGO Disney•Pixar's The Incredibles - each one unlocks a helpful gameplay effect. To earn a red brick, you must locate and complete a Family Build. These minigames are marked by large red pads on the ground, inscribed with The Incredibles logo.

Family Builds will only appear in areas of the City that have been cleared of a Crime Wave. Even then, Family Builds will be locked until you have collected enough Incredibricks which can be found throughout the game.

11

Mystery Bags

Mystery Bags will unlock new characters whom you can play as in Free Play mode. Some Mystery Bags can be earned as you play through the game.

Most Mystery Bags can only be acquired by spending Studs. To exchange Studs for a Mystery Bag, press and hold the U key to bring up the character grid. Press Space until the Mystery Bags screen appears. Follow the on-screen prompts to acquire and open a Mystery Bag.

More expensive Mystery Bags will contain more powerful characters. Once you have unlocked a character, you can use their costumes and powers when creating your own hero at Edna Mode's home.

Multiplayer

How a second player joins the game depends on whether they are using a gamepad or a keyboard.

Joining using a gamepad

Before starting the game, make sure the gamepad is connected to your computer. Press any button on the gamepad during play to activate Player 2. The character icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen will flash several times to confirm that a second player has joined.

12

Joining using a keyboard

Press the the F2 key key during play to activate Player 2. The character icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen will flash several times to confirm that a second player has joined.

NOTE: If pressing the the F2 key key has no effect, you may need to change your keyboard's default settings. For instructions on how to do this, please see When I press the Function keys (F1-F19) nothing happens. How do I use the Function keys? in the FAQs.
