Important Health Warning About Playing Video Games

Photosensitive Seizures

A very small percentage of people may experience a seizure when exposed to certain visual images, including flashing lights or patterns that may appear in video games. Even people who have no history of seizures or epilepsy may have an undiagnosed condition that can cause these “photosensitive epileptic seizures” while watching video games.

These seizures may have a variety of symptoms, including lightheadedness, altered vision, eye or face twitching, jerking or shaking of arms or legs, disorientation, confusion, or momentary loss of awareness. Seizures may also cause loss of consciousness or convulsions that can lead to injury from falling down or striking nearby objects.

Immediately stop playing and consult a doctor if you experience any of these symptoms. Parents should watch for or ask their children about the above symptoms—children and teenagers are more likely than adults to experience these seizures. The risk of photosensitive epileptic seizures may be reduced by taking the following precautions: Sit farther from the screen; use a smaller screen; play in a well-lit room; and do not play when you are drowsy or fatigued. If you or any of your relatives have a history of seizures or epilepsy, consult a doctor before playing.

Precautions to take during use

  • Sit a good distance away from the monitor.
  • Avoid playing if you are tired or have not had much sleep.
  • Make sure that the room in which you are playing is well lit.
  • Rest for at least 10 to 15 minutes per hour while playing a video game.

Hubs

There are a number of hubs in LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, which you may explore between levels. Hubs contain side missions for you to complete and hidden Collectibles for you to find.

To return to a hub during a level, select the “Return to…” option from the in-game Pause menu. Be careful – you may lose progress if you return to a hub partway through a level!

Side Missions

A superhero's work is never done! Besides saving the world, you'll also be expected to perform good deeds for the characters you meet during your adventure. Complete side missions in the hubs to earn Gold Bricks.

Levels

LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham is split into levels, accessible from the different hubs.

Once you have completed each level, you can replay it by selecting it from the map. To do so, press M to view the map, then select the level you wish to replay. You can choose between replaying the level in story mode or free play mode.

The first time you play a level, you do so in story mode. Some areas will be out of reach and you will only have access to a limited cast of characters.

Free Play

Once you have completed a level in story mode, you can replay it in free play mode using any of the characters you have unlocked so far.

You can use different characters to access areas that were previously inaccessible and find collectibles you missed the first time round.

6

Characters

You'll unlock new characters as you play through the game.

Different characters have different abilities. If you find that you can't perform an action or reach an area with one character, try switching to another.

Changing Characters

To change characters, press U to swap to the nearest playable character.

In free play mode, hold U to change characters. If your character does not have a Gadget Wheel, the character grid will appear, from which you can switch to any of your unlocked characters. If your character does have a gadget wheel, it will appear: select the Add Character icon (“+” sign) from the gadget wheel to bring up the character grid.

Flying

Is it a bird…? Is it a plane…?

Some characters (including Superman!) can fly. To fly, press J to jump, then press J again to hover.

While hovering, use WASD to move and JK to climb and descend.

Aiming and Firing

Hold down H to bring up the target reticle. When the reticle appears, use WASD to position it over the desired target, then release H to throw or fire your weapon.

7

Gadget Wheel

The gadget wheel lets you choose different suits and abilities for certain characters. Press and hold U to bring up the gadget wheel.

In story mode, there are five characters equipped with a full gadget wheel. Batman, Robin, Joker, Cyborg and Lex Luthor each have their own eight-slot wheel, providing you with a range of powers and equipment.

Multiplayer

You can team up with a friend/sidekick to play LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham in two-player splitscreen mode.

How a second player joins the game depends on whether they are using a gamepad or a keyboard.

Joining using a gamepad

Before starting the game, make sure the gamepad is connected to your computer. Press any button on the gamepad during play to activate Player 2.

Joining using a keyboard

Press F2 during play to activate Player 2.

NOTE: If pressing the F2 key has no effect, you may need to change your keyboard's default settings. For instructions on how to do this, please see When I press the Function keys (F1-F19) nothing happens. How do I use the Function keys? in the FAQs.

LEGO Studs

You’ll find LEGO studs scattered across every level and hub. Destroy LEGO objects to reveal even more studs!

If you collect enough studs in a level, you will achieve the status of “True Hero” and be rewarded with a gold brick.

Gold Bricks

You'll earn gold bricks by completing all sorts of challenges as you play the game, including finding enough studs in each level and rescuing Adam West!

Red Bricks

There are 16 red bricks to collect across the game.

Once you've found a red brick, you can purchase it using LEGO studs and so unlock a helpful gameplay effect. Once purchased, you can activate or deactivate a red brick's effect from the Extras menu, accessible from the in-game Pause menu.

Minikits

There are 10 minikits in each level. Locate them all to earn a gold brick.

Adam West in Peril
