How do I play a multiplayer race on Steam?

How you play a multiplayer race on Steam differs depending on whether you want to host your own race, or simply join one.

To host:

  1. From the Main Menu, select Multiplayer.

  2. The Multiplayer menu will appear. Select Custom Game.

  3. The Session List will appear. Select Create Custom.

  4. The Session Settings dialog will appear. Select an option depending on who you would like to be able to join your session: No (open) means that anyone can join the session, Friends only means that only players on your Steam friends list can join, and Invite only means that only players you invite can join.

  5. The Custom Lobby screen will appear. On this screen, you can adjust your race settings.

  6. To invite friends from your Steam friends list to the game, select Invite Friends. Otherwise, proceed to step 9.

  7. The Choose Friends to Invite dialog will appear. Click the Invite button next to the name(s) of the friend(s) you wish to invite, then select Return to Game.

  8. When you're ready to start the race, select Ready.

  9. The timer at the top of the screen tells you whether a race is currently in progress, or when a new one is about to begin. If there are at least two players in the lobby and there are no races currently in progress, a new race will begin once the timer counts down to zero.
