This document is intended to help you answer any questions that you may have about Total War: SHOGUN 2
What is included in Total War: SHOGUN 2 depends on whether you have bought the base game, Total War: SHOGUN 2, or the Total War: Shogun 2 Collection.
The base game, Total War: SHOGUN 2, does not include any DLC or extras. You can purchase DLC from Steam. For more information, see How do I obtain DLC?.
The Total War: Shogun 2 Collection contains the following DLC packs:

All available DLC for Total War: SHOGUN 2 can be purchased from the game's page on the Steam Store:
The following DLC packs are available to purchase on Steam:
If you have purchased the Total War: Shogun 2 Collection, you already own all of these DLC packs except the Blood pack. The Blood pack can be purchased separately from Steam.
Full details of the contents of the DLC packs can be found on Steam.
Once purchased, most DLC will automatically be enabled in your copy of Total War: SHOGUN 2.
Additional units, factions, buildings, battles, armor sets and retainers will all be available in the appropriate game modes.
The Blood pack and the Rise of the Samurai Campaign can be accessed as described below.
To enable the Blood Pack:
From the Main Menu, select Options.
The Options screen will appear. Select the Graphics tab.
Ensure the Blood Effects checkbox is ticked to enable blood effects in the game.
To access the Rise of the Samurai Campaign:
Rise of the Samurai is a stand-alone single-player campaign. To play Rise of the Samurai, follow the steps below:
In the Main Menu, place the mouse cursor over the Single Player icon.
Place the mouse cursor over the New Campaign icon in the menu that appears.
Select Rise of the Samurai from the menu that appears.
The Rise of the Samurai Campaign screen will appear. Customize your game settings, and select Start Game to launch the campaign.
Yes, achievements are supported by Total War: SHOGUN 2.
If you are signed in to Steam, your achievements will be visible to you in-game and also to other players through the Steam application.
If you have not already done so, please see the Total War: SHOGUN 2 Performance Tips section in the ReadMe for ways to increase the speed at which the game runs on your computer.
If the game is still running slowly during battles, you should disable the floating flags that appear over your units. This may improve performance. To do so, follow these steps:
From the Main Menu, select Options.
Select Battle Interface.
Under Floating flags, set both Land units and Ships to Never.
To activate first person view during a battle, select a unit and press the "\" key.
You will then see the battle from the perspective of the selected unit.
To return to an overhead view, press the "\" key again.
NOTE: If you have remapped your controls, the required key may be different from that listed above. You can view and edit your current control configuration in the Controls menu (Main Menu → Options → Controls). The command to activate first person view is listed as Context Camera under the Universal tab.
Playing a multiplayer battle in Total War: SHOGUN 2 is slightly different depending on whether you wish to host a battle, or simply join one.
To host:
In the Main Menu, place the mouse cursor over the Multiplayer icon and select Avatar Conquest from the menu that appears.
If you have not previously created an avatar, the Select/Create Avatar Profile screen will appear. Follow the instructions on-screen to create an avatar and play the avatar tutorial. Otherwise, proceed to the step below.
Click the Conquest Map button at the top of the screen.
Click the Battle List button at the top of the screen.
The Battle List screen will appear. Click the Local Network button at the top of the screen.
Select Host Battle.
The Host Battle dialog will appear. Enter a game name and a password (optional), then click the Accept button (tick icon).
The Multiplayer Battle screen will appear. On this screen, you can customize your battle settings. When you are happy with your settings and all the other players have joined the game, click the Ready button (tick icon).
The game will begin once all the players have indicated that they are ready.
To join:
In the Main Menu, place the mouse cursor over the Multiplayer icon and select Avatar Conquest from the menu that appears.

Resuming a saved multiplayer campaign in Total War: SHOGUN 2 is slightly different depending on whether you are resuming the game as the host, or simply joining it.
You must have been one of the original players to take part in a resumed campaign. The player who originally hosted the game must resume as host.
To resume as host:
In the Main Menu, place the mouse cursor over the Multiplayer icon and select Multiplayer Campaign from the menu that appears.
The Campaign Games screen will appear. Click the Local Network button at the top of the screen.
Select Resume as Host.
The Load Saved Game screen will appear, showing a list of your saved LAN campaign games. Highlight the game that you wish to resume and click the Accept button (tick icon).
The Two Player Campaign screen will appear. When the other player has joined the game, click the Ready button (tick icon).
The game will begin once the other player has indicated that they are ready.
To join a resumed campaign:
In the Main Menu, place the mouse cursor over the Multiplayer icon and select Multiplayer Campaign from the menu that appears.
The Campaign Games screen will appear. Click the Local Network button at the top of the screen.
From the list of campaigns, highlight the campaign you wish to join and select Join.

No. Multiplayer games hosted by PC players will be visible in the list of available games, but you will not be able to join them. These games will appear in red text in the list.
In a campaign, the Battle Deployment panel enables you to choose whether to fight the battle yourself or auto-resolve it.
You and your opponent may choose different options. In this case, the game will decide which option takes precedence based on the Default Battle Resolution setting the host chose when starting or resuming the campaign.
You can change the Default Battle Resolution setting from the Two Player Campaign screen before starting or resuming a multiplayer campaign.

However, you must first enable the secondary click function on your mouse or trackpad. This will enable you to perform a right-click by clicking the right-hand side of your mouse or trackpad.
To do this, follow these instructions:
Open System Preferences ( Menu → System Preferences).
Select Mouse or Trackpad (depending on which you are using).
Select the Point & Click tab.
Check the Secondary Click checkbox.
Finger "gestures", which are used by Magic Mice and Trackpads to switch between windows and applications, can disrupt your game if used inadvertently.
To disable them, follow these instructions:
Open System Preferences ( Menu → System Preferences).
Click on Mouse or Trackpad (depending on which you are using).
Select the More Gestures tab.
Uncheck all the checkboxes.
Short Apple keyboards do not have Home (↖), End (↘), Page Up (⇞), Page Down (⇟) or Delete (⌦) keys.
In order to use game commands that are mapped to these keys, you will need to use the Function (fn) key as follows:
Home (↖) = Function (fn) key + Left Arrow (◀) key
End (↘) = Function (fn) key + Right Arrow (▶) key
Page Up (⇞) = Function (fn) key + Up Arrow (▲) key
Page Down (⇟) = Function (fn) key + Down Arrow (▼) key
Delete (⌦) = Function (fn) key + Backspace (←) key
Yes.
If you have a Retina display, you will be able to take advantage of the extra pixels by running Total War: SHOGUN 2 in native resolution. This means that the game will display one pixel for every pixel on your display.
To do this, follow these instructions:
From the Total War: SHOGUN 2 pre-game Options window, select the Display tab.
Select the largest resolution from the Resolution drop-down menu to play the game in native Retina resolution.
Click the Play button. The game will start in native Retina resolution.
NOTE: In many cases, increasing your game's resolution will impact upon its performance.
Your saved games are stored in your game's preferences folder.
To open this folder, click the Open Preferences Folder button in the Support tab of the pre-game Options window.
The dock or notifications may occasionally appear while you are playing Total War: SHOGUN 2, or the desktop cursor may replace the game cursor. This can disrupt a game.
You can prevent them from occurring by checking the Hide the Dock (disables notifications) checkbox in the Total War: SHOGUN 2 pre-game Options window. To do so, follow these steps:
From the Total War: SHOGUN 2 pre-game Options window, select the Display tab.
Check the Hide the Dock (disables notifications) checkbox.
By default, macOS uses the F keys to control items such as volume and brightness. To use an F key for a game command hold down the fn key, then press the F key you wish to use.
To automatically enable the F keys, follow these steps (depending on the version of macOS you are running):
Open System Settings ( Menu → System Settings).
Click on Keyboard.
Select the Keyboard Shortcuts button (macOS Ventura).
Click on Function Keys (macOS Ventura).
Turn on Use F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys.
The F keys will now work without using the fn key.
To take screenshots while playing Total War: SHOGUN 2 you should use the following key command:
Command (⌘) + Shift (⇧) + P
When you press all three keys at once, a single image of the on-screen contents will be saved in the Feral Interactive folder in your computer's ~/Pictures folder (the "~" symbol refers to your home directory).
The JPEG image contains metadata in a string in the following format.
GameName/Version Number (OS Version; CPU Speed; Installed RAM; Video RAM; Current Graphics Card)
For example in Total War: SHOGUN 2 the string might look a little like this:
Total War SHOGUN 2/1.0 (macOS 10.15; 3.0; 8.0; 4.0; AMD Radeon R9 M395X)
This information can be easily removed by exporting the screenshot into a different format using Preview or another image editing tool.
NOTE: None of the metadata stored can be used to identify the user.

To run Total War: SHOGUN 2 in windowed mode, follow these instructions:
From the Total War: SHOGUN 2 pre-game Options window, select the Display tab.
Check the Run in a window checkbox.
Click the Play button. The game will start in windowed mode.
NOTE: Enabling windowed mode may decrease the game's performance.
