This document is intended to help you answer any questions that you may have about Middle-earth™: Shadow of Mordor™
If you are using a Magic Mouse or Trackpad, you cannot click the Left Mouse button while holding down the Right Mouse button. This means that you cannot aim and fire using only your mouse.
Instead, you can aim your bow by holding down the Alt (⌥) key. You'll then be able to fire using the Left Mouse button as normal.
If you prefer, you can change the key bindings for aiming and firing. You can customize your keyboard configuration by selecting Options → Keyboard & Mouse from the Main Menu.
If you are using an Nvidia graphics card, you may notice low frame rates and stuttering for the first few minutes the first time you play the game. This is because the game is loading new areas for the first time.
As you play, information specific to your Mac is generated and stored so that it can be loaded more quickly the next time it is needed. This means that the game's performance will improve as you play, and will improve significantly the next time you launch the game.
This information may be deleted when you upgrade OS X, so you may experience the same temporary problem immediately after an upgrade.
Yes, achievements are supported by Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor.
If you are signed in to Steam, your achievements will be visible to you in-game and also to other players through the Steam application.

The Bright Lord
The Bright Lord is an additional campaign mode, which is separate from the main story.
To play The Bright Lord, select Play → The Bright Lord from the Main Menu.
The Bright Lord also includes The Bright Lord character skin (see below).
Lord of the Hunt
Lord of the Hunt is an additional campaign mode, which is separate from the main story.
To play Lord of the Hunt, select Play → Lord of the Hunt from the Main Menu.
Lord of the Hunt also includes the Lord of the Hunt character skin and the Test of the Wild challenge mode (see below).
Trials of War
The Trials of War are challenge modes, which include:
To play the Trials of War, select Play → Trials of War from the Main Menu.
Power of Shadow
Power of Shadow includes The Power of Shadow character skin and three runes (see below).
Warband missions
The warband missions give you the chance to earn epic runes by defeating Uruk captains and their entourages.
They can be played at any time during the main story. Their locations are shown by red “Confrontation” mission symbols on your map.
Character skins
You can use character skins to change Talion's appearance during the main story.
To change Talion's skin, select Play → Change Skins from the Main Menu.
Runes
Runes will be added to your inventory automatically. To view your runes, press the Escape (esc) key to enter the in-game Pause menu, then select Weapons & Runes.
HD content
To enable high-definition textures, select Options → Advanced Options from the Main Menu, then set Texture Quality to Ultra.

If your gamepad is not on the list, email padsupport@feralinteractive.com and our support team will reply to you with a request for information about your device. Once we have this information, a gamepad support file will be created and emailed to you.
Once created, this gamepad support file will be used in all future games and updates - so you will not only be helping us get your device working; you will also help all other owners of the same device who play Feral games!

The following gamepads will be recognized by the game, but do not have enough buttons or analog controls to support all the possible in-game controls, meaning some in-game tasks will require the keyboard or mouse:
Some gamepads support both DirectInput and XInput modes. These gamepads can be identified by a switch on them that has two options, “D” (DirectInput) and “X” (XInput).
To play Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor a gamepad must be supported and set to DirectInput mode.
Currently supported devices that have this switch are:
If your gamepad has the switch and is not on this list, you will not be able to use it to play Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor without a pad support file. To obtain one, email padsupport@feralinteractive.com and our support team will reply to you with a request for information about your device. Once we have this information, we can usually create a gamepad support file and email it to you.
To switch the gamepad to DirectInput mode, follow these instructions:
If the Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor application is running, close it.
Unplug the gamepad (or wireless receiver, if the gamepad is wireless).
Turn the switch on the pad to “D”.
Plug the pad or wireless receiver back in.
Restart the Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor application.
You will now be able to play Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor with the gamepad.

However, you must first enable the secondary click function on your mouse or trackpad. This will enable you to perform a right-click by clicking the right-hand side of your mouse or trackpad.
To do this, follow these instructions:
Open System Preferences ( Menu → System Preferences).
Select Mouse or Trackpad (depending on which you are using).
Select the Point & Click tab.
Check the Secondary Click checkbox.
Finger "gestures", which are used by Magic Mice and Trackpads to switch between windows and applications, can disrupt your game if used inadvertently.
To disable them, follow these instructions:
Open System Preferences ( Menu → System Preferences).
Click on Mouse or Trackpad (depending on which you are using).
Select the More Gestures tab.
Uncheck all the checkboxes.
The dock or notifications may occasionally appear while you are playing Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, or the desktop cursor may replace the game cursor. This can disrupt a game.
You can prevent them from occurring by checking the Hide the Dock (disables notifications) checkbox in the Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor pre-game Options window. To do so, follow these steps:
From the Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor pre-game Options window, select the Display tab.
Check the Hide the Dock (disables notifications) checkbox.

To run Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor in windowed mode, follow these instructions:
From the Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor pre-game Options window, select the Display tab.
Check the Run in a window checkbox.
Click the Play button. The game will start in windowed mode.
NOTE: Enabling windowed mode may decrease the game's performance.

If you have a Retina display, you will be able to take advantage of the extra pixels by running Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor in native resolution. This means that the game will display one pixel for every pixel on your display.
To do this, follow these instructions:
From the Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor pre-game Options window, select the Display tab.
Select the largest resolution from the Resolution drop-down menu to play the game in native Retina resolution.
Click the Play button. The game will start in native Retina resolution.
NOTE: In many cases, increasing your game's resolution will impact upon its performance. For tips on improving performance, read the Performance Tips point in the ReadMe.
By default, music playing in iTunes will be paused when you start playing Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor.
To turn this feature off, follow the steps below:
Double-click on the Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor application icon. The pre-game Options window will appear.
Select the Extras tab.
Uncheck the Pause iTunes while playing Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor checkbox.
Select the Play button to start playing.
To turn this feature back on at a later date, simply check the Pause iTunes while playing Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor checkbox and then select the Play button.
Your saved games are stored in your game's preferences folder.
To open this folder, click the Open Preferences Folder button in the Info/About tab of the pre-game Options window.
You can also navigate to the preferences folder manually. It is stored in the Feral Interactive folder in your computer's ~/Library/Application Support folder (where the "~" symbol refers to your home directory).
By default, the Library folder is hidden from your Finder. To open it, follow these instructions:
Open the Finder.
Open the Go menu from the main toolbar.
Hold down the Alt (⌥) key. The Library option will appear.
Click on the Library option. The Library folder will open in your Finder.
To take screenshots while playing Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor you should use the following key command:
Command (⌘) + Shift (⇧) + P
When you press all three keys at once, a single image of the on-screen contents will be saved in the Feral Interactive folder in your computer's ~/Pictures folder (the "~" symbol refers to your home directory).
The JPEG image contains metadata in a string in the following format.
GameName/Version Number (OS Version; CPU Speed; Installed RAM; Video RAM; Current Graphics Card)
For example in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor the string might look a little like this:
Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor/1.0 (macOS 10.13.4; 3.0; 8.0; 4.0; AMD Radeon R9 M395X)
This information can be easily removed by exporting the screenshot into a different format using Preview or another image editing tool.
NOTE: None of the metadata stored can be used to identify the user.
No. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor has been tested with the basic formatting option for Mac OS X, which is HFS+. This system is not case-sensitive and identifies files by name without checking capitalization.
The capitalization of filenames is not consistent throughout the game. While this will not always prevent the game from running on case-sensitive file systems, it may lead to crashes and other unpredictable behaviour.
If you have to run a case-sensitive setup and you experience problems with Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, please install the game on a standard formatted partition or read/write disk image. In most cases this will allow you to play the game on your machine.
