1. Installation

   As part of the Steam download process, the game has already been installed on your computer. To start playing the game, read the Getting Started section.

2. Getting Started

   1. If it is not already running, launch the Steam application.

   2. If you are not already signed in, the Steam Login dialog will appear. Enter your account name and password, then select Login.

   3. The Steam application will launch. Select Library.

   4. In the library, select Life is Strange: Before the Storm, then select Play.

   5. The Life is Strange: Before the Storm pre-game Options window will appear. Click on the Play button. The game will launch.

   6. After the loading screens, the Title screen will appear. Press any button.

   7. The Main Menu will appear. To start a new game, select Episodes → Episode 1: Awake → Start Episode.

   8. After the opening video, you'll find yourself out past curfew in a dark forest with the sound of music in the distance…

3. Life is Strange: Before the Storm Performance Tips

   The most important factors in determining how smoothly Life is Strange: Before the Storm plays are your CPU speed, the amount of built-in RAM, the type of graphics card in your computer and the in-game settings you select.

   Life is Strange: Before the Storm is playable with the minimum specifications listed below, but it will play more smoothly on faster computers with more RAM. However, if you are dissatisfied with the performance of the game on your computer, there are a couple of things you can do that are likely to improve performance:

   • Close all other applications: You are strongly encouraged to quit all other applications before launching Life is Strange: Before the Storm – other applications drain resources and slow the overall system performance.
   • Clear disk space: Ensure that your main hard disk has plenty of spare disk space.
   • If you have a second monitor, disconnect it (having an additional monitor connected to your computer may create a drop in performance).
   • If you are using a laptop, plug in your charger (running on battery power may create a drop in performance).

   
   In addition to these general actions, there are numerous specific in-game settings you can select to speed up the game. These are listed below in order of performance improvement (largest improvement first). Move down the list adjusting settings until you find an acceptable balance between performance and graphics.

   • Detail mode
     • Hella High – Slowest
     • Medium – Faster
     • Low – Fastest
   • Screen resolution
     • 1920 x 1080 – Slowest
     • 1366 x 768 – Faster
     • 1176 x 664 – Fastest
   • Anti-aliasing
     • Hella High – Slowest
     • Medium – Faster
     • Off – Fastest
   • Effects quality
     • Hella High – Slowest
     • Medium – Faster
     • Low – Fastest
   • Shadow quality
     • Hella High – Slowest
     • Medium – Faster
     • Low – Fastest

   
   NOTE: All of these settings are found within the game under Settings → Video settings, accessible from the Main Menu.

4. Uninstalling

   To uninstall Life is Strange: Before the Storm, follow these steps:

   1. If it is not already running, launch the Steam application.

   2. Select the Library tab.

   3. In the library, right-click on Life is Strange: Before the Storm in the list of games on the left-hand side of the window, then select Manage → Uninstall.

   4. A dialog will appear confirming that you wish to delete all the game content. Select Uninstall.

   
   You may also wish to remove the Life is Strange: Before the Storm preferences, which are stored in the feral-interactive folder in your computer's ~/.local/share folder (where the "~" symbol refers to your home directory). Deleting the preferences folder will remove the save files, so all game progress will be lost.

   NOTE: By default, the .local folder is hidden from Files. Press Control (ctrl) + H to reveal hidden folders.

   NOTE: If you have more than one game from Feral installed, remember to check inside the folder so that you do not delete preferences for other Feral games.

   NOTES:
   * AMD graphics cards require Mesa 18.1.6 or later
   * Nvidia graphics cards require driver version 396.54 or later
   * Intel graphics cards are not supported
